INFORMATION BULLETIN ON VARIABLE STARS NUMBER 794 Konkoly Observatory Budapest 1973 May 22 DISCUSSION OF 12 VARIABLE STARS IN A REGION AROUND alpha = 17h, delta = - 70d The present paper presents the results of a study of variable stars situated in Ara, Apus and in Triangulum Australe. The investigation is based on 340 plates taken by A. Van Hoof and the first author with the 10-inch Metcalf telescope of the Boyden Observatory at Bloemfontein (South-Africa). To facilitate the identification of the variables and their comparison stars small charts are shown in Figure 1. These charts cover a field of +-30 minutes of arc square with North on top. Star no. 2 is identical with BS Apus and star no. 7 is identical with DZ Apus. No chart is given for these variables. The improved values have been given in Table 1. The mean errors in the sixth column correspond with the last two decimals of the periods. The periods P in the fifth column were used in deriving the phases according to the formula: Phase = P^-1 x(J.D.Hel. - 24360000). The brightnesses of the comparison stars have been tabulated in Table 2. The magnitudes have been derived from star-counts, made in a field of 1/4 sq.d around each variable and compared with the tables in Groningen Publication no.43. The data of the least-square solutions are given in Table 3. The mean phase, the mean brightness and the numbers of observations for each point of the light curve are given in table 4.
