COMMISSION 27 OF THE I. A. U. INFORMATION BULLETIN ON VARIABLE STARS NUMBER 626 Konkoly Observatory Budapest 1972 February 8 V 462 CYGNI The variable star V 462 Cygni was observed on objective-prism IIaO plates obtained on July 27, 1971 with the 60/90/183 cm, 4deg prism (350 A/mm at H Gamma) Schmidt telescope at Campo Imperatore. The spectrum (see figure) is typical of a long period variable near maximum light. The spectral type is M7 or M8 with H Gamma to H_11 in emission. H delta is the strongest line with an equivalent width of 6.5 A. The star displays a strong ultraviolet excess. The following magnitudes were measured from the tracings: m_3600=10.3 (uncertain) m_4400=11.8. W.P. Bidelman kindly informed us that on the Warner and Swasey Observatory infrared plates it appears as a star of probably M7 spectral type. We acknowledge P.J. Treanor S.J. for helpful discussions.
