COMMISSION 27 OF THE I. A. U. INFORMATION BULLETIN ON VARIABLE STARS NUMBER 459 Konkoly Observatory Budapest 1970 August 26 TWO SUPERNOVAE 1953 IN FAINT GALAXIES By comparing plates of the Schmidt-telescope of the Karl=Schwarzschild- Observatory, Tautenburg, with the Palomar Sky-Survey prints two supernovae have been found: [FIGURE 1] 1. SN in galaxy 16m (Anon) RA = 10h 56m 15s D = + 50 31'8 (1950) SN about 10" NE of nucleus. Magnitudes: 16m5 on 1953 Feb 13/14 (plate 0-673) 18m0: on 1953 Mar 15/16 (plate 0-709) 2. SN in galaxy 19m 5 (Anon) RA = 11h 00m 45s D = + 50 06'7 (1950) SN about 3" S of centre. Magnitude: 17m0 on 1953 Mar 15/16 (plate 0-709) From the second supernova radio emission has possibly been observed in the 5 C 2-survey. Its position coincides with the source 5 C 2.108.
