   VISUAL OBSERVATIONS OF THE FLARE STAR EV LACERTAE

      During the September 1969 international observing
session of the flare star, EV Lac, the star was patrolled
for 32 hours by visual observers in the United Kingdom.
Hours of coverage in Universal Time are tabulated below.
Visual magnitude estimates using the comparison sequence
given by Andrews and Chugainov (Ref. 1) revealed no brightness 
variations greater than about +0.1m. The 12th magnitude
optical companion a few seconds of arc to the west of EV Lac
was well resolved at Armagh, and the flare star estimated
to be at magnitude 10.0 throughout the observing period.
Although this result suggests that EV Lac was brighter by
0.25m than given photoelectrically (Ref. 1) this difference
cannot be established with certainty by our visual technique
with the available standards.
