          NEW VARIABLE STAR IN AQUARIUS


The reductions of photoelectric observations of BR Aqr showed that one of the
two comparison stars is variable. The observations were done by Mr.J.V. Pel
and Mr.F. Velthuyse in 1967 with the lightcollector of the Leiden station in
South Africa. Dr. P.N. Kholopov confirmed that it is a new variable star.

The coordinates of the star are:

RA: 23^h36^m39^s
D: -09d26.'1    1950.0

The star has been observed in the colours V, B, L and U of the Walraven system,
using a comparison star with the following coordinates:

RA: 23^h36^m12^s
D: -09d31.'8   1950.0

In the figure the brightness is given in log intensity. The phase was
calculated according to the formula:

phase=1.6313x(J.D.Hel-2430.000)

The preliminary elements are:

Max=J.D.Hel 2439757.35+0.^d6130 E

The light variation of the star is between

V_J=10.^m87 and V_J=11.^m34.

According to period, amplitude and lightcurve, the star is probably an
eclipsing binary of the W UMa-type.
